So far this year I haven’t been all that successful in finding vegan or dairy free Easter eggs. That was to change once I stumbled-upon this cute little Easter bunny on the Ethical Superstore website. I’d already parted with enough money but I thought that I should really part with £9.95 and see if it’s any good. I must admit I’m not a vegan so had my doubts. Thankfully I was proven wrong and I actually loved it.
I was partly upset by this novelty Easter gift because there was a fair amount of packaging but I could understand it to degree as the stiff plastic was needed to hold it in place during transport, even though it wasn’t show in the photo on their website. Also I was a touch perturbed because the sharp edges of the plastic cut into the ears of the rabbit. If there was a chocolate RSPCA they certainly wouldn’t be amused. The solution, of course is to eat the ears first – and that’s exactly what I did.
Apart from the extreme sweetness of the gold Lindt bunny the thing I don’t like about them is that they’re incredibly hollow, even the ears are empty. But with this Easter bunny from Cocoa Loco the ears are solid all the way through with a marbled effect of milk, dark and white chocolate. It’s not surprising that each one weighs 200g.
When you bite in you get a very audible snap and then a wonderful array of flavours given by the three flavours of chocolate. I just loved the fact that each took its turn in the limelight and delivered some good tones of both sweetness and bitterness. I shouldn’t like this egg as much as I did, but it’s damn good.
Some people may baulk at the price, but trust me £9.95 from Ethical Superstore or £9.99 direct is a very good price for some flavoursome, hefty chocolate that also manages, somehow to be cute as well. And that’s why I’ll rate it as ‘very good’.
