2012 Update: This year Hotel Chocolat have done a great job with their 2012 version of the Ostrich Easter eggs. Before they came in large rectangular boxes but this year they’ve completely revamped them and now have them in humongous hat-box shaped containers. I actually asked the MD of Hotel Chocolat if they were designed to look like hat boxes and he said they were. I must admit they look fantastic. The pictures on their website don’t actually do them justice. I’ve seen them in real-life and they’re absolutely immense.
The half and half weighs 1.1kg and has 29 chocolates and has a shell that is half milk chocolate and half dark chocolate whilst the Milk chocolate Ostrich Easter egg is 1.1kg of just two halves of a large milk chocolate shell along with the 29 chocolates.
Three years ago these eggs sold for £50 but now they’re £70, but from my recollection they’ve got larger and certainly more beautiful. I wish I had one!! I’ve just got the normal sized versions of these eggs
You can get 10% off the price of these Easter eggs (saving £7 each) by using the discount code: EEPR10 until 8th April 2012 at Hotel Chocolat
Update 2009: The Rocky Road to Caramellow Ostrich Egg is very similar to the Rocky Road to Caramellow Extra Thick Egg, however, it’s almost three times as large at a staggering 1.4kg (or so). That’s just immense!
The price, at a £50 is also pretty huge too. But the Rocky Road to Caramellow Ostrich Egg isn’t an Easter egg that will disappear in an afternoon – it’ll be enjoyed for a good few days after Easter Sunday!
Again it’s made out of 40% milk chocolate and has all the lovely pralines that the extra thick egg has, but there’s just that much more of it.
You can buy it from Hotel Chocolat.
