The news from the fascinating world of packaging is that Nestlé plan to remove plastic packaging from around 80% of the shell Easter eggs due to be on sale next year as well as ensure that the card tray they’ll use to secure the eggs will be made from recyclable card from sustainable forests.

Nestlé has said that the reduction will equate to 30% which exceeds the agreement made with the Waste & Resources Action Programme which was set at 25%.

They’ve also taken the step of removing some of the wrappers from some of their shaker eggs and even managed to reduce the packaging for the Kit Kat Chunky, Aero, Smarties and Rolo medium Easter eggs.

And how much waste will this save? A staggering 700 tonnes! Well done guys!
