Along with the Happy Tiddly Pot Egg, Hotel Chocolat also do the Grumpy Tiddly Pot Egg and the Confused Tiddly Pot Egg. Now which you buy this Easter will depend if you think your child is confused, happy or grumpy!
These little Easter eggs are 40% milk chocolate, but quality milk chocolate at that and come with a little pot of small Easter chocolates. This isn’t a huge egg, so I wouldn’t worry about your kids over-indulging and it only costs £5 from Hotel Chocolat so I’m sure you won’t overspend either.
The nice people at Hotel Chocolat have sent me one to try out.
At first I was a bit disappointed with the size of the Easter egg – overall the box was only 15cm tall. However, that impression is borne out of all the really cheap Easter eggs for kids that I’ve tried where there’s nothing special about the chocolate you’re giving your kids. It’s the taste and texture that sets it apart from the cheaper varieties from Cadbury or Nestle that many will buy their children this year. I implore you to try Hotel Chocolat instead.

What I also liked was that the egg was relatively thick for its size, I had visions of it being wafer thin but it was a good 4mm in places. I meant to measure it before I started eating it, however, I’m guessing its around 8cm high.
And the milk chocolate pod bunnies and chirpy chicks are awesome too! They’re also made of the top quality chocolate and are just a good nibbling size.
You may think that you can get bigger Easter eggs for kids at the supermarkets for £1.50 but with these ones you’re not only giving them less sugar and have to cope with the resultant sugar rush, but you’re also teaching your kids about quality and healthier eating. I’d certainly recommend these as one of the best Easter eggs for kids you could buy this year.
Easter Eggs Rating: 8/10 – could have been bigger, but it still has the great Hotel Chocolat taste.
Buy from: Hotel Chocolat – £5
Update 2011: It looks like this year the Easter egg pots have got slightly larger and the packaging appears to be a lot more engaging and focused at children. The downside is that the price has gone up a fair bit too. But you can get three for £18.
