All I can say is wow! This Green & Blacks Butterscotch Organic Easter egg (which you can buy direct from Green & Blacks as part of an Easter egg gift box or individually for £5.99 from Ethical Superstore) is utterly fab!
The box looks amazing. The colours are deep orange that give it that warm feeling, the picture of the field behind with the dragonfly also add to the feeling. This is certainly a quality Easter egg in all senses! But this Easter egg also meets all the requirements of the soil association so you know you’re going to enjoy, or give a wholesome Easter egg in the ethical sense. Obviously, it’s not going to be totally healthy for you as that’s the point of Easter, but you will at least not be contributing to the damaging of the environment when you enjoy it.
But it’s also the quality of the Easter egg inside that’s astounding. So this may look like any other Easter egg, but they go to much more lengths than others to make it look great. The colour is a deep brown, the logo is embossed and the foil wrapping also gives it a feel of warmth and richness.
The fullness of the flavour not only comes from the little pieces of toffee which permeate it, but also from the fact that they use milk chocolate with 37% cocoa solids which is almost twice as much as many of the Cadbury’s milk chocolate (20%) Easter eggs. This gives it a rounded base flavour which is enhanced, like jewels in a crown, with the little bits of toffee.
This toffee is obviously very sweet, but there’s not too much in it that would over “egg” it. They’ve put just enough in it to give it a nice, earthly taste and crunchiness which adds an extra dimension. I’d have to say this is one of the best Easter eggs I’ve reviewed this year!
