Environmentally Friendly Chocolate

I’m just trying to find the most environmentally friendly Easter eggs at the moment. When I do my Easter egg reviews I’ll be commenting on how much chocolate there is behind the packaging as excessive packaging is one of my pet hates.
I’ve found a report in the New Consumer magazine which comments on a survey conducted last year. They analysed the packaging for a wide range of Easter eggs and found that the minimum amount of packaging you’ll be “buying” is around 1/3. So you’ll have 2/3′s chocolate and 1/3 cardboard, foil, plastic etc. That was the average, the worst, according to their study was the Nestle KitKat egg which had 52% packaging – yes more packaging than egg!
Slightly better was the Simpsons Easter egg made by Kinnerton which is more than 40% packaging.
The best for the least amount of packaging was the Raspberry egg which was just wrapped in lightweight cellophane and had a 16.25% level of packaging.
But when you’re looking at the smaller eggs, the Cadbury Cream Egg were only 6% ‘waste’ when bought in a box of eight.
