The Dubble Speckled Eggs from Ethical Superstore are just £1.95 and well worth the money and suitable alternative to Cadbury Mini Eggs or over-sweet stuff like the Marks & Spencer Decorated Solid Milk Chocolate Bunny Lollipop
When you open the packet you’ll get something like 34 mini eggs which is great compared to some of the others such as the Marks & Spencer’s Organic Fairtrade Solid Dark and Milk Chocolate Mini Eggs where I counted 20 at a cost of 14p each or the Green & Blacks Organic Dark 70% Praline Filled Mini eggs which worked out at 27p each whereas these costed just 6p each – although they are a lot smaller and not of the luxury variety.
But when you taste them I was a bit dissapointed, they were nice and crunchy, and I know that I normally complain about chocolate being a bit too sweet like the Galaxy Mini Eggs, but with the crunchy mini eggs I think that’s the whole point of them, and I suppose that’s why I think Cadbury Mini Eggs do so well.
Overall, I’d say they’re a great mini egg for kids that you don’t want to overdose with sugar. There is, however, 457kcal in each packet and only 27% minimum cocoal solids. And only 78% of the ingredients are certified to international Fairtrade standards.
Easter Eggs Rating: 6.5/10 – not great but for a good cause and a good way to introduce your kids to the Fairtrade debate.
