The technical name for these Novelty Chocolate Filled Hens Eggs is Ouef Coquille and for many folk over here they’re going to be just as unusual as the name.

To be honest, I didn’t really know what to expect as I removed the egg box from the fantastic delivery box where everything was well wrapped to protect damage – something that I must really praise Paul and Gareth at Chocolate Trading Co for.
What I got was something fantastically original, novel, different, unusual – call them what you will. But it’s doubtful you’ve experienced something like this on our shores before.

What you get is 6 real French hen’s eggs filled with a strange combination of top quality milk chocolate, with a almond and hazelnut crunchy praline.
The people at Chocolate Trading Co have really surpassed themselves with these novelty Easter eggs. Last year I just didn’t find time to order any, but I’m glad that I tried them out this year.
When you get one out and peel the real egg shell off you’re met with a strange concoction that has a strange texture, but is totally delightful.

The Chocolate Filled Hens Eggs are certainly not something you’d not notice yourself finishing off as you do with what I call “session chocolate” – chocolate that you don’t recall eating. These Easter eggs are something that you’ll take a bite of and think “what the xxxx was that?”, then you’ll take another one and think “eh? that’s a bit strange that is” and then you’ll slowly nibble your way through it all until you get to the end and then make your mind up. That is unless you’re like my other half who’ll probably take a small bite and say she doesn’t like the texture.

As you can see, the ganache is very crunchy, very granular and probably not to everyone’s taste.
I found them really interesting to eat, and they’re certainly a novelty Easter gift. The issue may be that they’re fairly expensive at £19.99, (2012 update, they’re now £21.95) but you’re not buying any old rubbish. You’re buying quality ingredients with real hen’s eggs and you’re buying from a company that only deals with the best quality produce.
Easter Eggs Rating: 8/10 – very unusual, fantastically original, strange tasting but a bit on the steep side. If you did want to get someone an Easter gift that was certainly different, I wouldn’t look much further than the Chocolate Filled Hens Eggs from Amazon.
