Cadbury Flake Easter Egg – The National Trust Egg Hunt

I’m still in the milk chocolate mood and have been un-naturally drawn towards the Cadbury Flake Easter Egg sat in the corner of the office.

I listed the Flake Easter egg last year but never got round to reviewing it – so many eggs, not enough time. But I’m glad I’ve got it out now. We all know that the Flake in particular and Cadbury chocolate in general is a mass market chocolate and they’re not going to be able to match the quality of, say Hotel Chocolat, Chocolate Trading Co, Montezuma’s or Melt, but we do know is they have the ability to make Easter eggs that kids love and at great prices. This is where the Flake egg steps in.

What I love about the packaging is that the important information is clearly available. It’s got a graphical representation of what you get: a shell egg, and four flake bars – although they do look bigger on the picture than you actually get.

I was a bit disappointed with the level of packaging inside. But it must be difficult keeping everything inside – perhaps they’ll work on that a bit more next year?

I’m sure that the chocolate they’ve used for the egg is different to their other eggs but the same as the actual Flake bars as it distinctly tastes grittier. Now the Hotel Chocolat Milk Chocolate Oblivion Easter egg definitely tastes of chocolate, but this one has a very slight chocolate flavour – perhaps by taste buds have been shot to bits lately? I know it’ll have its lovers, but with so much choice it will be difficult to choose this one over some of the others, unless you just HAVE to have a Flake Easter egg!

If you are having to choose Flake this year for a loved one, then consider getting it as part of a gift set. Cadbury Gifts Direct have many of these to choose from, including:

* Flake and Wine Gift – £20
* Flake Moments Flowers – £25.00
* Easter Egg Hamper – £20.00
* Delux Gift Pack – £50.00

You can also buy the large Flake Easter egg individually for £7.70 or in bulk and a box of six for £36.25 from Chocolate Buttons.
