Cadbury Bournville Deeply Dark Easter Egg

16 February 2008 in Cadbury's, Dark Chocolate by admin

I bought this one for £5.25 from Morrisons – who do great deals on the more mass-produced Easter eggs.

I must admit I bought this one to review because I love dark chocolate, the packaging was enticing and the price of £5.25 or 2 of that price Easter eggs for £8.

The packaging has “By Appointment of HM The Queen …” which to means, “if it’s good enough for the Queen, then it’s good enough for me!”.

When I first opened up the packaging I was bet with a fairly large Easter egg and two bars of dark chocolate. It seemed that Cadbury tried to skim on the cost of the foil as it hardly met around the egg! Also there wasn’t a great deal of PVC either. On both accounts it’s good for the environment, and good for their bottom-line too!

When I first tried the chocolate it had the sensation and taste of cardboard. I put this down to the number of Easter eggs I’ve reviewed today. The pleasant thing was that feeling was quickly met with a lovely balance of dark chocolate. It may only be 60% but it was nice and mellow, but still not as simple a flavour as milk chocolate.

Another factor that made me buy this egg was that it had something about an Easter Egg Trail and The National Trust on it. Under close inspection and with a bit of research I’ve found out that Cadbury have invested £1 million to support over 200 National Trust Easter Egg Trails across their properties in 2008. You can find out more at the National Trust website and www.eastereggtrail.com.

The site does have a good selection of games for you to play with your kids at Easter including games to print out. And something that is often lost – Why Celebrate Easter, which they’ve got a page about.

Overall, it’s a good Easter egg, but does disappoint slightly.
