2012 Update: This year Betty’s have created some absolutely awesome-looking Easter eggs – but they don’t come cheap. I don’t expect many people will be buying one of their £195 and 5kg Imperial Easter eggs, but the rest of their eggs are in the Hotel Chocolat world of prices. The most expensive is a 490g Dark chocolate egg adorned with beautiful spring flowers which costs £39.
They also do a Swiss milk chocolate one, made with, I believe top quality Felchlin chocolate couverture. This is filled with a range of handmade chocolates and will cost you £35.
They have a “Grand Cru Dark Chocolate Easter egg for £25 and gorgeous looking 230g Easter eggs for £19.95 such as their Lily of The Valley Easter egg. they also do a white chocolate Easter egg with a badger on it and a small 80g woodland fern egg for £4.95.
I occasionally like to focus my attention on the Easter egg retailers that you may not have heard of before and this time it’s time to show you the Easter eggs from Betty’s By Post.
If anyone doesn’t know, Bettys has a number of world famous Tea Rooms around York and Yorkshire. I’ve been into the York one a few years ago and when I was there last year I wanted to go in but the day just disappeared and we didn’t make it. Bettys Tea Rooms focus on good, local ingredients and are fantastic ways to relax mid-shopping and enjoy a nice cuppa and cake.
It now looks like you can get that sort of attention to detail and quality ingredients in a range of Easter eggs. I’m going to ask them to send one over to review but just looking at the variety from their website they’ve got a fantastic assortment of quality Easter eggs.
They’ve got a huge “Imperial”5kg Easter egg that you have to phone up and order and costs £120 – I wouldn’t recommend eating that on Easter Sunday afternoon! It’s hand-decorated with spring flowers and made from royal icing and “Grand Cru” Swiss courveture chocolate and stands at an impressive 54cm high. You can also choose to have either a dark or milk chocolate version.
If your budgets are a bit smaller then they have a variety of medium-sized Easter eggs that you can buy online from £22 to £15 that have fantastic designs on them. You can also get smaller eggs such as the Fabergé one or a Wooly Sheep egg. They also do hand-decorated boxes of chocolates, praline mini eggs, sugar coated mini eggs as well as a very interesting looking Fondant filled Easter egg.
You can buy all these (except the Imperial Easter egg) online at Bettys By Post.
