Oh Yes! The Wispa Easter Egg

The news is that that Cadbury are planning a Wispa Easter Egg for the coming Easter season after the relaunch of the classic bar.

The Wispa is one of my most favourite chocolate bars of all time and it'll be great to see it as an Easter egg, however I doubt we'll see anything imaginative or unique and it'll follow the patern of other Cadbury Easter eggs. Let's hope I'm wrong and they come up with some great packaging and a variation on the egg theme.

There doesn't seem a week goes by without someone raising questions about the use of packaging with Easter eggs. Cadburys may have taken much of theirs away but that's not enough for MP John Hayes who is calling for action to tackle the amount of excess packaging that manufacturers are using these days - and he's not wrong.

The only issue I've got is that Easter egg manufacturers seem to have made great strides, its the toy and gadget manufacturers that really need to take action - as well as stepping up recycling within families and households.

Cadbury Market Share Slightly Down

The Guardian reports that Cadbury had slipped 0.2% of market share in the first 3 months of the year.

They apparently blamed the early Easter - but wasn't it the same date for every Easter manufacturer?

But when you read on, they say it's because they didn't heavily discount the cost of their Easter eggs in the supermarkets - and rightly so! They appeared to allow deep cuts of their product's costs, with some middle-of-the-road eggs being sold for about £1 in places like Morrisons and Wilkinsons. Tesco and Asda had them on sale for ridiculously low prices too. But these price cuts where paid for by the retailer, not Cadbury.

'I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it'

The Crunchie easter egg comes with a cadbury's easter egg and two full size crunchies. Perfect for that Friday feeling…or Easter Sunday come to think of it.

The easter egg is wrapped in that oh-so-familiar purple tin foil and breaks easily into two pieces which feature a chick design on. The chocolate egg tastes just like you would imagine…and smells just like how you would imagine Willie Wonkas chocolate factory to smell. Mmmmmmm. Having said this, the chocolate does melt quickly in your fingers so beware if you have small kids and cream carpets (or big kids for that matter!)

This year Crunchie has teamed up with the National Trust to promote an Easter Egg trail (great way to burn off those easter egg calories!). The back of the box features lots of extreme facts. For example, did you know that the highest recorded speed by a snowboarder is 201.907KMH?!

This is a great value egg and tastes just as good as its yellow, purple and red packaging looks. A must-have for anybody who likes crunchies,

Mars Easter Egg Review

A Mars a day helps you work, rest and play…or so the old saying goes. So, what better way to review this easter egg than by having it for breakfast (I don't usually eat chocolate for breakfast but overslept and had no time so a Mars bar seemed like the perfect option! It certainly kept me filled up until lunch).

It's hard to complain about this classic Easter egg, despite being small it's most definitely filling! Along with an Easter egg, you receive TWO full size mars bar yum yum.

The Easter egg is wrapped in shiny gold paper and is of average consistancy. It isn't thick but then it isn't too thin, just about right and completely inline with the price.

The chocolate is OK. Definitely not the best and a little too sweet but it is edible and doesn't leave that cheap after taste like some Easter eggs do. Tastes just like the chocolate on the outside of a mars so if you like that, you'll love this egg!

The packaging is bold - like a mars bar but in the shape of a box. And there's a note to say that it is made from 100% recycled cardboard showing that Mars are doing something for the environment as well as chocolate lovers!

Overall a good Easter egg - it does what it says on the tin 'Mars the egg + 2 bars'. Can't really grumble at that.

Cadbury Flake Easter Egg Review

I offered a friend of mine a Cadbury Flake Easter egg to review - and unsuprisingly she took me up on my offer. So this is Laura G's review of the well-known Cadbury Flake:

With it being my very first Easter egg of 2008, I had high expectations for the classic Cadbury’s Flake egg….I was not disappointed. The flakey texture of the not one, but two flakes within the box was offset by the smoother texture of the chocolate egg itself. The classic Cadbury’s flavour was as pleasing as ever and the milk chocolaty aroma left me feeling satisfied and full of Easter joy!!

I can't remember how much I paid, perhaps it was £2.99 from Morrisons?? But I've had them before and just love Cadbury Flakes and I'm pretty sure you do too!

Cadbury Gifts Direct Review

I was trying to find out which Cadbury Easter Egg Pack the wonderful people at Cadbury's have sent me and I think it's the Super Egg one for £15.50 but it may be a special one they've made up for me to review?

What I did like about Cadburys Direct is that they send it in a box that you automatically know that you've got fantastic chocolate goodies inside! When I got the notice through the door that I had a delivery and it wouldn't fit through the letter box I was expecting something the size of a normal Easter egg. However, this box was huge!!

And when you've managed to get into that box you'll find another gift box inside. Not only does it look good, but it works with the polystyrene packaging to keep everything safe and sound. The only breakage I had was when a friend, in her excitement, dropper the chocolate chicken on the ground!

So what did I get?

1) Easter Egg Trail Pack
This is a great box of treats. You get loads of mini Cadbury Creme eggs, mini Dairy Milk caramel eggs, and not so small Easter eggs! It's a great gift for a grandchild or children. They won't last long, but I think they're amazing!

Easter Eggs Rating: 8/10

2) Tube Of Cadbury Mini Eggs
These are my all-time favourite sweets. Confectionary perfection in a tube. What I loved about the Cadbury Mini Eggs tube is that it's full to the brim - no half measures or nearly full chocolate. These won't last long if you're giving them to an adult or a child!

Easter Eggs Rating: (keeping it remotely sensible) 100/10

3) Cadbury Mini Creme Easter Egg
This isn't like the ones in the Easter Egg Trail Pack, this is 98g of a traditional Easter egg with a Creme egg within - ingenius.

Easter Eggs Rating: 7/10 - because its a cool, simple Easter egg that doesn't pretend to be anything else.

4) Cadbury Creme Egg Minis
I hadn't seen many of these on my own Eater egg hunts around the supermarkets, but they're another great, handy little Easter gift. You get 160g of mini creme eggs that I'm sure will devour in seconds.

Eater Eggs Rating: 7/10 - they're a bit too sweet for me, but my other-half loves them!

5)Small Cadburys Dairy Milk Chocolate Buttons Easter Egg
this is another cuttie of an Easter egg. You get around 105g of chocolate and it has the chocolate buttons stashed inside.

Easter Eggs Rating: 7/10 - nice and simple.

6) Chocolate Chicken with eggs inside
This is another great little Easter treat from Cadburys. It's not over the top and I'm sure young kids will love them.

Easter Eggs Rating 7/10 - again a simple Easter egg.

So how would I sum up Cadburys Gifts Direct? Well the Easter eggs arrived undamaged in a great box. Cadbirys eggs aren't pretentious - you get exactly what you expect, imaginative, yet simple Easter eggs for the younger generation in mind. They're designed as simply family Easter treats and they're not necessarily trying to target the expensive market for wives, girlfriends and partners - and they do it exceedingly well.

So my overall Cadburys Gifts Direct rating is 8/10.

Many of you may still want to buy some of the more sophisticated Easter eggs online and may not want to visit your local Tesco's or Asda.

So here are the last order dates for the online Easter egg retailers that offer something different:

1) Thorntons
Thorntons make this very easy. On their homepage they saty that the last order date for Easter eggs is Wednesday 19th March at 4pm. But for this you need to select "Gold" delivery which costs £5.95. Thorntons are great in that they allow you request a specific delivery date.

2) Hotel Chocolat
For UK delivery it takes 3-5 working days so you'll need to order by Wednesday. But they do Gold delivery which gives you next working day delivery if you order before 2.30GMT. So for this I'd say Thursday 20th at 4pm to be safe - it seems they've extended the last order time especially for Easter. Gold Delivery costs £5.95 for one item or £7.95 for two or more.

3) Cadburys
Cadburys offer a next day delivery service for orders Monday - Thursday if made before 3pm (but this does exclude the highlands and islands). This costs £6.50, but if it's a bulk load it may be easier than carrying them back from the shops?

4) Green & Blacks
Green & Blacks have one of the earliest Last Order Dates - Wednesday 19th at 12:00PM. Their standard delivery charge is quite high at £5.00 althogh their next day delivery service costs £6.50, and like most they won't deliver on a Sunday or Monday.

5) Chocolate Trading Co.
The Chocolate Trading Co. have some of the best delivery prices. You can get normal 3-4 day delivery for £3.95 or next day delivery for just £4.95. If you're buying from them the last delivery date and time is Wednesday before 4pm.

6) Ethical Superstore
The Ethical Supersore charge packaging and delivery based on weight but if you're buying more than one, I'd expect to pay £3.95. But I couldn't see next day delivery. So I'd recommend you buy by Tuesday at the latest.

Tescos Belgian Chocolate Summer Fruit Easter Egg

Last year Hotel Chocolat sent me one of their slabs of chocolate and it was simply amazing so I thought I'd try Tesco's Belgian Chocolate Summer Fruit Easter Egg - and it wasn't a decision I'd live to regret!!

The box is great just as the Triple Chocolate Easter egg was. It really is an Easter egg for your loved one and I'm sure your other half would be extremely glad to get such a fantastic egg.

When you get the egg out of the box you're met with a very pleasant aroma that entices you in to taste its delights.

But you have to get past the very attractive "bow" which does add a touch of class to the egg. As you pick it up you'll notice its thicker and heavier than the other Tescos Easter eggs.

It's the summer fruits that give it some "piquancy" (I watch cooking programmes too!). It's great to counterbalance the texture and mellowness of the chocolate with something a bit sharper. Truly delightful!

I must admit that Tesco's have done an absolutely fantastic range of Easter eggs this year. If they want me to take part in designing some next year, they know where I am! As I certainly think they should extend the range on offer.

Overall, the Tescos Belgian Chocolate Summer Fruit Easter Egg was a fantastic egg and I'll certainly enjoy finishing off.

Belgian Triple Chocolate Easter Egg

Now this is another unual Easter egg from Tescos. I know Thorntons do a slightly similar one. But this Belgian Triple Chocolate Easter Egg is truely unique.

The box is simply fantastic and is well-priced at £7.49. But they do have a good number at that price.

I'm not the biggest fan of white chocolate but I'd thought as I wasn't fond of the Green & Blacks White Choclate Easter egg, it was about time I gave them another go.

The first thing you notice when you pick it up is that it is heavier than the Banofee one they do. But it is a fantastic one with all the different bits of chocolate to munch your way through.

This one was also very easy to break into and thing on the back of it. But nearer the chunks of chocolate it got very thick and more delightful.

The three different flavours go exceptionally well together. Don't be put off if you don't like white, milk or dark chocolate as I'm sure you'll enjoy the combination.

Overall I didn't expect to like the Belgian Triple Chocolate Easter Egg as much as I did. The girls in the office want me to take it in tomorrow. I might just forget it!

Tesco Milk Chocolate Banoffee Easter Egg Review

When I popped into my local Tescos I was surprised to see that they had a Banoffee Easter egg. It take much to convince me to buy one to review.

The Banoffee eggs stood out as one of the most interesting they had - despite not being the most expensive - at a reasonable £4.99.

The is great as it tells you exactly what you get inside and has a nice
material-handle.

When you open up the box you're me with a rich banana aroma which was highly inviting. And when you see the 6 mini eggs you're just as excited.

The egg was surprisingly light and was easy to break into, but when you take a bite; OMG! It was crispy, fizzy and fantastically delightful! It really did surprise me. I didn't expect it to have such a delicate but yet complex flavour.

When ever I review eggs I try not to have too much as I know after a couple of hours of trying them I'd feel ill. But with this one I really didn't want to stop!!! If you do buy it for somebody else, you'll be hiring a sniffer dog to find out where they hide it - if it lasts that long!

I was slightly disappointed by the mini eggs as they were very, very sweet. But that doesn't take anything away from a fantastically delightful Easter egg.

So overall, I'd say the Tesco Milk Chocolate Banoffee Easter egg is a must buy if you're trying to find one that's a little-bit different.

Outdoor Toys & Gifts For Kids From PrezzyBox

So the kids are doing your head in and you want to get them out into the garden. You've also got £325 to spare so why not get them a huge Bouncy Train - it's like a castle but has wheels instead of turrets!

Now this is a bit of a laugh to be honest as I don't think anyone will spend £325 on a bouncy train - unless you've got money to burn! Well if you're interested, Prezzybox (the guys there are great!) have a range of outdoor toys for Easter.
