Marks & Spencer's Organic Fairtrade Solid Dark and Milk Chocolate Mini Eggs

Well, last year I forgot about Marks & Spencer's for Easter, I don't know how I managed that. But I thought I'd pop along and see what they've got in store early on in the season.

There wasn't a huge amount of choice, but what was there was either great for kids or of top quality.

What I did get was the Marks & Spencer's Organic Fairtrade Solid Dark and Milk Chocolate Mini Eggs. That's its official title. Isn't it a bit of a mouthful? Well they actually weren't as nice as I thought they'd be.

As per usual with mini eggs, the packaging belies the quantity you actually get. I counted 20 of them. Which works out at 15p each. Is that too much, well that's up to you.

But you do have to admit that they do look very appetising all laid out like that. But I'm sure you'll be dipping into them one after the other and may not notice.

The first one I tried was the milk-chocolate mini egg - they're in a slightly lighter green foil wrapping. What I like about organic milk chocolate is that it doesn't taste as sweet and over-powering as the mass-produced, highly-commercial milk chocolate. It just tastes nice and natural. But the taste is somewhat different. There's a distinct taste of hay. The good thing is that it tastes like its not polluting your body with unwanted chemicals. There is a degree of soya lectithin which apparently is a "permitted non-organic ingredient - I don't know how that works. But to counter-balance that, instead of loads of sugar they use caramel syrup.

The dark chocolate mini eggs do have a more agricultural aroma and are more crunchy with a nice crisp texture. The taste is very bitter and delightful. However, I don't think I could have a good session eating them.

I'm not sure if Marks & Spencer are going to sell the Organic Fairtrade Solid Dark and Milk Chocolate Mini Eggs online. But I'll keep an eye out for them. In store they're &2.99.

Easter Eggs Rating: 7/10 - nice, but not a session chocolate.
