All About Cadbury's (AKA Cadbury plc)

Cadbury's as they are commonly known are the world's largest confectionary manufacturer and was even larger before they split from the Schweppes business in May 2008.

Cadburys was started in 1824 by John Cadbury who was a bit of a trend-setter as he was fairly early in the tea and coffee retailing business. Later on he started selling chocolate in the famous Bull Street in Birminham.

When John retired he passed the business to his sons, Richard and George who opened a factory at Bournville which is a few miles south of the city and later George bought 120 acres of land and started work on building a model village where there were no pubs and the aim was to reduce vice.

After World War 1 they merged with another chocolate manufacturer - J.S. Fry & Sons, which most of us know the brand from their Turkish Delight bar.

It seems that Cadbury's are struggling to fight the use of the possessive term "Cadbury's" and are moving to wards the straight "Cadbury", the issue is that the former term is strongly engrained in society - so I wish them well with their efforts.

You probably didn't know that Cadbury's also owns the Trebor Bassett, Fry's, Maynards and Halls brands - but they do. But here's some stuff you probably didn't know. The Cadbury's range of buscuits are actually manufactured by Burton's foods, the Ice Cream based products are made by Fredericks' Dairies and the Cadbury's cakes are made by Premier Foods.
